WRINCH, DOROTHY

biologist (1894 - 1935)

Dorothy Wrinch was a British mathematician, biologist, and chemist apparently known for her sharp tongue. She advocated a theory of proteins in which amino acids were hooked together in chains subsequently shown to be incorrect although the sequence hypothesis was important. There is a nice article about her in Women of Science Righting the Record Ed. Kass-Simon and P. Farnes, Indiana University Press,1993.
