By the second half of the 19th century, many women were practicing physicians.
Two of the articles that Mary Jacobi wrote can be found at the
Cornell
Library. She was the first woman student at the L'École de Médicine, Paris,
and moved to the United States where she practiced with her husband,
Abraham Jacobi.
